Drama has always been an important means of developing creative and confident children. Research shows that students who participate in drama-based activities are:
· more open to speaking in public
· more persuasive in their written and oral communication
· better able to make friends and adjust to new situations
· better able to relate to and empathize with others
· more positive and confident
However, at The Innovators we do not teach performance skills - we live the performace! Each week the group is presented with a scenario. Everyone is encouraged to use their thinking, problem solving, listening and sharing skills as we become the salient characters, or travel to the specific locations in question.
Imagine being stranded on a Deserted Island. What life saving material will they invent? How about the week we are getting ready to perform at the Comedy Café? We need to first design the sets, create microphones, and deliver our funny jokes. There is even a day where the children pretend ‘they’ are the Grown-Ups. Instruction around body language, voice work and a change in vocabulary is essential to make this day work!
In addition to the scenario work, each class begins with a series of quick-thinking improv exersices and incorporates the creation of a related, usable art project.
From beginning to end, children learn to integrate every skill they have and add new ones to the mix.
This class is unlike any your child has ever experienced. It is sure to boost your child’s confidence, pride and innovative thinking...underneath all that laughter!
